UniPrint offers a thesis printing and binding service for both temporary and permanent bound theses.

PhD, master's and other doctoral theses

Theses that are administrated by the Graduate Research School (GRS). Do not submit them directly to UniPrint. You should consult the GRS process for submission of your thesis. After completion UniPrint can print copies of your thesis for personal use or for requirements of your school.

Honours and master's by coursework theses

Thesis binding

Permanently bound

Theses that need to be printed and permanently bound should follow the specification and format. The traditional style is a case bound book with gold foil text on a buckrum (or equivalent) binding cloth.

You can also request a soft bound version for your private copies. These are Perfect Bound with an printed and laminated card cover.

Temporary binding

Temporary binding is typically spiral bound with a front cover of clear plastic and back cover of black card. As part of the examination process you may be asked to provide a printed and temporary bound thesis.

Process

You can upload your files and create your cover page for printing and binding via Uniprint Online Ordering process. Of course, if you need assistance you are still welcome to visit the UniPrint Campus Shop where one of our staff can assist you.

Costs and payment

The UniPrint Online Ordering interface will calculate the cost of your printing and binding job.

You can pay via credit card online or with prior approval from your school, the costs can be charged to school directly. If you wish to have the school pay for it you need to ask them for a BU (Business Unit) and PG (project Grant) Number and the name and contact details of the accounts contact as we must have the costs approved by the school before we can begin production.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any limits to how big the thesis is when they’re bound?

We can bind books that are up to 400 pieces of paper thick – so if its printed double sided that means 800 pages with no issue

Can I bring a printed copy of my thesis and have you photocopy the rest of the copies?

Yes, however we don’t recommend it as the quality of photocopies will not be as good as a direct print from a digital file. Also note submitting your job online gives access to cheaper printing prices.

Can I bring a Word file or something that isn’t a PDF for my thesis printing?

With our online ordering submission you can upload your finished thesis as the preferred PDF format or as a word file (and it will convert it to a PDF for you), you can even use it to join several documents together into one PDF. However whenever you do make a PDF from word, we suggest you check it thoroughly. When you are submitting your job – you can download the generated PDF and save it to your desktop for checking.
